Jeff Gavin places 23rd at the 2003 RE/Max World Long Drive
ChampionshipIn his first trip to the World Finals, Oakville
Ontario's Jeff Gavin finished 23rd out of 96 of the worlds top long
drive competitors. "I really feel I could have won the whole thing,"
says Gavin. "In the quarterfinals I had to hit 376 yards to advance. I
definitely hit some drives that were long enough to but they did not
stay in the grid. I one hopped a ball into the 370 yard sign about 6
feet out of bounds, so distance was not a factor. I will just have to
put more balls in the grid and I think it is matter of working out
harder and practicing the right things in the next year and beyond."
Jeff played the 4.5 degree Ashton X-1 Driver at the finals. "I did
not really hit my best, but I was very confident in my equipment. During
practice sessions on the range I had a lot of other competitors ask if
they could try one of my drivers. When they did, and I asked them what
they thought, the most frequent answer was, that is a beautiful driver…
too bad I am signed with another company or I would definitely like to
put it in play. I also cannot say enough about the support and
technical help that the guys at Ashton Golf provided. They went above
and beyond what a competitor would expect, especially since this was my
first attempt at the World Championships. They are in it for all the
right reasons and I think they are a company to watch."
