Ashton X-1 Driver makes a strong showing at the 2004 LDA Q School
Ashton Golf would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ashton
Long Drive Team member, Rock Hicks on placing 5th at the 2004 Long
Drivers of America (LDA) Qualifying School in Dallas, Texas. His drive
of 391 yards secured his 5th place finish and an exemption into the
World Long Drive finals in Mesquite Nevada. Rock battled through an
impressive field of 137 long drivers and vaulted himself into the final
eight with a 402 yard blast in the semifinals. "The night before the
tournament, I switched lofts in my driver" says Hicks. "The guys at
Ashton hand picked a 4.5 degree lofted X-1 down to a 3.5 degree. My
trajectory lowered and I was able to hit powerful shots."
Ashton Golf would also like to congratulate Jeff Gavin on placing 13th
at the 2004 LDA Q School. Jeff also secured his fully exempt 2004 LDA
Tour card. The highlight of the tournament for Jeff was a 390 yard bomb
at 8am on day two, almost 30 yards ahead of the next competitor.
"Considering we only had three Ashton team members that attended the
tournament, I am extremely pleased with the results," says Ashton Golf
President Cliff Barron. "Long Drivers are starting to catch on to the
product and I expect nothing but good things in the future for players
teeing it up with the X-1 Driver." As a note, the X-1 Driver was also
used, by a non-Ashton team member, to hit the longest ball on the second
day of the tournament at 409 yards.
