Ashton Golf introduces their brand new MS-5 Driver
Ashton Golf revealed today their brand new MS-5 Titanium Driver. "We are
very excited about our new driver", says Ashton Vice President Dennis
Martini, P.Eng. "The MS-5 is essentially 5 drivers in one. It is a 415cc
driver, available in 5 distinct models. SL- super light weighing 192g, HW-
heavy weight weighing 207g, DR- draw bias, HL- high launch and STD-
standard. It is a club fitters dream. We consciously decided not to jump on
the "removable screws bandwagon" like a lot of manufacturers are doing. We
performed countless hours of R&D on those particular drivers and found the
screw weights were not heavy enough and placed in the right positions to
significantly effect ball flight, not to mention the possibility of them
falling out. Our MS-5 has interior weighting changes to the sole, skirt and
crown of each driver to very effectively change ball direction and flight.
We manufactured the sole and the crown of the SL and HL with 100% beta
titanium to give us more room to play with interior weighting. Something
else the MS-5 features, a rarity in driver design these days- face score
lines. We tested MS-5 prototype heads with and without score lines. Testing
concluded that the head with score lines performed better with regards to
accuracy and dispersion, and it performed equally as well with regards to
distance. In wet weather, there was simply no comparison; score lines were
far superior. When swing speeds exceeded 135 mph, score lines were
detrimental. My personal favorite is the look of the club. The double satin
finish face, deep high gloss paint and three layers of clear coat lacquer
are simply gorgeous. Cosmetically, in my opinion, it is the best head
available in the component market today. Performance wise, it is the best"
Ashton Golf will be debuting the MS-5 Driver and the new X-1D Fairway Woods
at the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando Florida, January 27th to January
30th, booth 4340.
